It can be done!
The key is keeping it simple. You can still have chic while keeping it simple in fact I think they go hand in hand.
As far as flowers go...I would recommend going through a grocery store's florist to do your flowers. I would also recommend you do some yourself. You can order the flowers you want through the florist and have the florist make the more difficult things such as the corsages and boutonnieres. You can also have your bouquets made if want as well, although if you keep them simple you can hand tie them yourself. Roses will be the easiest to work with and are so classic. Plan on at least 2 dozen roses for your bouquet and if you want to inexpensively jazz up the bouquets request the florist to order you a bunch of spray roses in a shade lighter or darker (or even the same) and a bunch of hypericum berries. (They come in red or green and are a nice touch). Just put a few sprigs of the spray roses and the hypericum berries in each bouquet and you have a designer bouquet without the price! Also, at Michael's you can buy ribbon and crosage pins with pearl heads to finish the stems off. Once you have tied your bouquet, have someone help you hold the bouquet, (rubber bands can help too!) and tie the ribbon around it. Then push the crosage pins in the stems through the ribbon and your have a beautiful bouquet.
For decorating the church, you can keep it really simple and just drape tulle and put rose petals down the aisle. Use candles at the alter. (You can buy tons of ivory candles in bulk at the dollar store or at Ikea) Candlelight is so romantic and so beautiful. You could also, if your budget allows, just have greenery made into swags to go with the tulle. Just have your florist order you lots of different filler greens. (you can get a ton of that really inexpensively). You can either price out how much swags would cost or you can even make them yourself. You just need twine as the base and floral wire. Then just wire pieces of green onto the twine and you have a beautiful swag.
For the reception, once again I would utilize the dollar store. I would get glass containers there and buy some river rocks. Put the river rocks at the bottom of the container, fill them with water and float the heads of flowers. You options will change depending on the time of year, but some beautiful flowers for floating are, orchids, dahilas, gerber daisies, and gardenias. Even though they are expensive flowers, because you will only need one or two heads, it will be very affordable. Then just put some tea-lights out, (dollar tree and Ikea, once again great sources) and you have a beautiful centerpiece.
As far as the bridesmaid dresses go, pick a color and have them go get their own dress in that color. I did that with my bridesmaids and chose black. Everyone loves a black dress and you can find one anywhere. They are also very elegant.
Music- these days it is all about the IPOD. Have a friend ready to press start and just push go. You can program your songs and have everything ready to go. Most reception halls have a speaker system that you can plug into. I have been to some very fancy weddings where the music was all IPOD and frankly it was a lot nicer than listening to some obnoxious DJ playing the Chicken Dance throughout the night. I would just recommend assigning a friend to be in charge of it. That way if anything goes wrong, they are on top of it.
Wedding Cake- If you have a friend that can make a cake go for it, but I don't usually recommend it. Let them enjoy the day and it can be very much in your budget! Once again, utilize a grocery store! You would be surprised at how wonderful they turn out and how affordable they are. They may not be able to make the amazing fondant creations we see now a days but they can do a smooth buttercream finish. Plus buttercream is a lot more yummy than fondant! Have them do a buttercream finish and then provide them with ribbon in different widths and the colors of your wedding. They can place the ribbon on the cake and it will look classic and gorgeous!
I can't help you out with the church costs. I know a lot of people who get married in a church usually attend that particular church and can get married there for free. If you don't usually attend a church regularly, then maybe you should consider getting married somewhere else. The city's have beautiful parks you can get married in and usually it only requires a permit. If you have your heart set on a church, then I am sure the fee varies, but it may include the officiant, so that could actually save you money. You may also consider using the church for the reception as well. Many churches have a reception hall that you can rent as well.
As far as reception food goes to really get the most for you buck I would recommend having an afternoon wedding on an off day. Many sites will give you a discount if you don't get married on a typical "wedding" day like Saturday. It is also usually cheaper for a luncheon vs. dinner. You can have your ceremony around 11:30 and then have lunch after wards. You can then have it on a Sunday afternoon and people still can get up in the morning. That will also save you on alcohol, because people will drink less (or at least that will be the plan) during the day vs at night.
Your wedding is very doable!! It will be very beautiful and you won't have to break the bank.
Congratulations!
