Large White
Whole Foods has these great large marinated white beans along side of the olives in the ready to eat bar?
where can I buy the large white beans that look like large fava beans. The clerk said this ready dish is imported. It may be a Spanish dish. I want to make my own since the price is costly from whole foods.
Those are Lupini beans. They are an Italian thing. They (in my family at least) are like the equivalent to putting out dishes of nuts when guests come by, lol. They are fun to eat, you have to 'pop' the bean out of it's skin. They are very firm, and can stand up to marinating in flavored brine, like they do at Whole Foods. They aren't easy to find, though. If you have any Italian delis or markets in your city, you can probably find them there, either in dry form, like any other kind of bean, or in jars in a saline-like brine. I'm sure you can find them online, but don't know if that would be too costly.
I love them, and every chance I get to go to San Diego, I buy them at Whole Foods, since we don't have one where we live.
