Any creative ideas for covering up wooden wall paneling?
My husband and I live in a rented townhome with a semi-finished basement. We're not allowed to make any permanent changes to the property, but we're trying to organize the basement and make a comfortable workspace for...well anything besides just a dumpy, creepy downstairs place. Anyway, it has this awful wooden wall paneling. We can't tear it down, can't glue any thing to it, etc.
Does anyone have some ideas for covering it or doing something to make it look better without damaging it in any way?

I would cover it with fabric. Make it curtainy with folds. Like say the wall is ten feet long, get 15 feet of fabric and bunch it up every few inches, so the wall will look like a curtain.
First find the studs. It's easy with paneling. Just follow the nails. Then you want a strip of wood for the top and bottom. Just like a 1x2 or something. Staple the fabric to the back of the top 1x2, bunching it every few inches, roll it over and nail it to the studs. (The nail holes will be hardly noticeable if at all when you take it down. (Use small finishing tacks) Do the same at the bottom. Staple the fabric to the back of the 1x2, roll it under, and tack it to the studs. Voila.
Fabric can be very expensive, but you don't need expensive fabric for this. Sheers are made of a very cheap fabric (like $3 a yard) and dark ones should work fine. You can even just use burlap or white/ off white curtain lining fabric Even the cheapest fabric looks a lot better than tacky paneling.
